Crafting the perfect memorial for your loved one
We are experienced stonemasons in Sussex who will work closely with you to craft the perfect, personalised memorial. Having worked in this industry for many years we are used to meeting the needs of all our customers and will do everything we can to ensure the finished result is exactly what you want.
- Hand-carved, bespoke memorials. We hand carve memorials from natural stone, so we can make them in various shapes and styles. Your memorial can be completely bespoke – just tell us what you require.
- Help choosing your stone. We can advise you on the best type of stone to choose depending on the look you would like. We can also offer advice on the longevity of the stone and how to maintain it.
- Memorial maintenance. Some softer natural stones will need more maintenance than others and paint will fade over time. We can offer a memorial maintenance service following fixing, if required.
- Knowledge of regulations. We are NAMM-registered and have a thorough knowledge of all regulations. We can offer guidance when choosing the size of your memorial and tell you what is possible within regulations.
- We offer hand carved lettering styles and designs. We can either hand carve or sandblast lettering, designs and images, depending on stone type.
- Different layout options. We offer different layout designs to ensure the inscription looks the way you want it to. We will show you the different options and explain them until you find one that is right for you.
See answers to the questions our customers often ask us.
1. What types of memorials do you offer?
We offer a wide range of memorials suitable for placement in churchyards and cemeteries. Memorials can be crafted from various materials in different shapes and sizes, in line with the regulations of the respective churchyard or cemetery.
2. How long does memorial production take?
Memorials can take from around 8 weeks to 20 weeks, depending on the stone type chosen, as some materials take longer than others to be ordered.
3. Do you offer memorial installation services?
Yes, we install all memorials provided by us.
4. What is the process for ordering a memorial?
The process begins by selecting the type and shape of the memorial. You then provide the wording you’d like inscribed, and we prepare a computerised layout to show how it will appear. Once this is approved, we send you the necessary forms and invoice for the deposit. Upon receiving the signed forms, we submit them to the Reverend or Council for approval. Once approved, the stone is ordered. When the memorial arrives or is crafted in our workshop, the lettering is applied, and installation is arranged.
5. Do you provide memorial design consultations?
Yes, we are happy to meet and discuss your requirements. A scaled layout will be provided to show how the wording and design will appear on the memorial.
6. Can I customise memorial designs?
Absolutely. We offer both machine-cut and hand-cut designs and can also carve crests or emblems.
7. What materials do you use for memorials?
We work with granite, Nabresina, Portland, marble, Celtic limestone, slate, Yorkstone, and Purbeck.
8. How do I maintain my memorial?
Cleaning is especially important for more porous stones, as they are prone to weathering. However, avoid scrubbing the lettering, as this may remove the colour infill.
9. Do you offer memorial restoration services?
Yes, we can clean and restore memorials to make them look as good as new ones.
10. Can you repair damaged memorials?
Yes, depending on the extent of the damage. Please contact us so we can assess the condition and advise accordingly.
11. How often should I clean my memorial?
This depends on the type of stone. Granite and slate will not really need cleaning as they are wearing stones; the more porous stones will require maintenance to keep them looking nice and clean; how often depends on the location of the memorial, but wiping over every few months will help keep any lichen from getting into the stone.
